Built from real inspection frustration.
Tap Report started with a simple problem: workplace inspections were taking too long, creating too much paperwork, and making it too easy for important follow-ups to fall through the cracks.
How Tap Report Started
What started as a frustrating stack of paperwork in a downtown Toronto office building became the spark for something much bigger.
Back in 2009, one of our founders was working as a Fire & Life Safety Officer, responsible for completing routine workplace inspections every month. On paper, it sounded straightforward. In reality, it meant working through 60+ page inspection reports by hand, page after page of checklists, notes, and follow-ups. And that was only if everything was working perfectly.
If a deficiency was found, the real work began: endless emails, reminders, and chasing down colleagues to make sure issues were resolved. The process was slow, inefficient, and far too easy for things to fall through the cracks.
At some point we had the same thought many others have had before: there has to be a better way.
After sharing these frustrations with colleagues, we realized this wasn’t a unique problem — it was an industry-wide one. Workplace inspections were stuck in the past, relying on outdated manual processes that wasted time and created unnecessary risk.
As self-proclaimed tech nerds with experience completing fire & life safety inspections and annual fire protection inspections, we decided to build the solution ourselves.
That’s how Tap Report was born; starting with a very primitive version of what it is today.
At the time, our software solution largely focused on monthly fire & life safety inspections performed by property management team members. From there, we expanded from one industry to the next.
What began as a simple idea quickly turned into thousands of hours of development, testing, trial and error, and constant enhancements from customer feedback. We worked to create something that would not only eliminate paperwork, but completely transform how inspections were managed from reporting deficiencies to tracking corrective actions and ensuring accountability.
Today, Tap Report helps organizations modernize their inspection, testing & maintenance, improve compliance, and save countless hours of administrative work.
We’re incredibly proud of how far our software solution has come, but even more proud of the problem it solves and where we’re headed.
